These images are left over from a Public Art project devoted to the Washington Riots 1968 that occurred as a response to the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. . The Riots effectively hardened the four partitions that make up Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest Washington. These “Checkpoint Charlie” signs were originally meant to decorate the video kiosks that I hoped to install in the neighborhoods once devastated by the riots.
